An occupational therapist teaches individuals with permanent disabilities to use adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, splints, and special aids with eating and dressing. They also provide or manufacture special equipment needed at home or at work.

Occupational therapy aims to treat individuals who face problems and challenges in their ability to adapt to the work environment. This includes assessing the work environment and its activities, and evaluating the client’s progress, in cooperation with him and the employer to adjust the work environment to suit his needs.
With kids
An occupational physical therapist evaluates children’s abilities, provides therapy, and adjusts classroom equipment to meet their needs. May work individually with children or in small groups, and participate in curriculum coordination in consultation with teachers or administrative committees. It also provides early intervention services for infants and young children, by enhancing listening and responding skills and teaching daily life skills such as dressing and stimulating social interaction.
